Today I thought I would tell you about my love for Pole Fitness! For a few years I knew friends who had started going to Pole Fitness classes and they were posting about it online, I was mesmerized by the moves they were showing on their Instagram - they looked fabulous!
I was never confident enough to try it when I first started following their pole journeys, I also did not have the time to fit it in to my schedule as I was living in Coventry and they all did the lessons in my hometown. However, due to life throwing some curveballs I ended up back in my hometown and the studio advertised lessons on a Saturday in the summer of 2018 so I signed up and never looked back! I can honestly say that starting lessons gave me an unimaginable amount of confidence for someone who was always shy and didn't like showing any skin etc. My confidence has soared since beginning pole and my strength has built up more than it would if I was only going to the gym, it is a full body workout and its fun. You don't even realise how much of a workout it is until you do it!
In November 2018 I was unfortunate enough to break my shoulder in 3 places (I know let's not do things by halves Megzie), which meant that I had to take a break from Pole Fitness and all fitness in general! Before you ask - it was not a pole related injury (it was a dog related one... but that is a story for another time).
I spent 12 weeks in a sling trying really hard not to move my arm and ruin the healing process, it was and is a long road to recovery. I started Physio with the NHS in February 2019 and decided to go private in May 2019 - best decision I ever made as my recovery progress started to move a lot quicker. Now I don't suggest not listening to your Physiotherapist, however, I went on holiday in September 2019 and thought it was a brilliant idea to go white water rafting after he told me to only do light swimming :) But I wanted to have fun and my gosh I did! It also helped my shoulder movements immensely - I still recommend only following your Physio's advice though!!
I spent 10 months out from Pole and for me that was long enough. After my holiday and seeing a specialist in regards to my shoulder, my Physio and I discussed my return to pole, again he told me only to try light moves and do what my body allows by small exercises (meaning don't go back to pole....), however, on my first lesson back in October 2019 - I went straight for the below move:
Below are some of my favourite photos from my journey so far. I cannot wait for this pandemic and lockdown to be over in order to continue along this amazing and fun journey!
