I'm writing this almost 2 years after my trip to Amsterdam (I know I'm late to the writing party on this one). However, I've always wondered how best it is to write about this particular trip. I'll start with why it was booked...
In 2017 I had some major life changes happen to me - my 7 year relationship broke down in the midst of wedding planning with approximately 5 months to go to the "day". In light of this one of my best friends decided that to make sure I was distracted on the planned day and not upset that we should go on a trip somewhere that neither of us had been and had always wanted to go - cue Amsterdam!
We asked our colleagues the places they had stayed in Amsterdam and they all came back with the exact same hotel and to me it is one of the most photo and insta worthy hotels I've seen.
The hotel was just a little outside of Amsterdam itself in Zaandam and it was really easy to get to from the airport! Just jumped on a train to the station for Zaandam and its a quick 3 minute walk away :)
One of the things we wanted to do whilst in Amsterdam was visit the Anne Frank Museum (we both love history), unfortunately the Museum was closed for renovations but I suppose it is an excuse for us to go back at some point!
These are the things we actually managed to do:
Went to the Hard Rock Cafe for dinner with a view! We did this by pre-booking a 3-course menu (Diamond Menu) through a ticket reseller. Cheaper option and the food choices are still as good as the standard menu - plus the brownie was delicious!
Went to the Amsterdam Ice Bar - now that was a cold experience! I'm so glad we tried it though just to say we had. I don't think I would visit another Ice Bar again, but it was a good time to start the drinking that evening!
Had a Dinner Cruise along the canal - we chose the Pizza Cruise option but you can also choose a Burger Cruise or a 4-course Dinner Cruise. On this experience you get dinner and a tour in one so what's not to love!
Visited Keukenhof Gardens (although the day we had booked ended up being wet and miserable) we tried to make the most of it, however, we are absolutely freezing and fully soaked through! We wished it was a nicer day to make the most of the gardens instead of the cafe!
We also walked around the city a lot and took so many photos its unreal!
Amsterdam is definitely a city I would recommend anyone visiting, there is so much to see and so much to do there's not a minute that you will be bored! Just don't go over Easter Weekend and miss your flight XD
